Obama Apologizes: Day Two
It’s Day 2 on the apology tour (see day one for full disclosure).
Today we’re lining up the lovelies that begin with the letter B including Barbara (the Temptations), Barbara Ann (Beach Boys), Bess, You Is My Woman Now (Ella Fitzgerald/Louis Armstrong), Beth (Kiss), Betty (Art Blakey), Betty Lou’s Getting’ Out Tonight (Bob Seger), Bianca (Dean Martin), Billie’s Blues (Billie Holiday), Billie Jean (Michael Jackson), Ode to Billie Joe (Bobbie Gentry), and a certain Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison). And then there is Bernadette by the Four Tops. Ladies, we’re sorry, so sorry.
Ahhh, the
mystery of Bernadette. While this juicy, fruit forward blast of sweet soul was
crafted in the gritty Motor City terroir, it always takes me back to 1967 and the
Southern California beaches where Sir Lehman and I spent the summer body
surfing and listening to KHJ and KRLA on our iTransistors (black and white
sharing the pop airwaves –what a concept). And while we didn’t know any Bernadette’s
(plenty of Pams, Lisas and Robins) we knew she was something special, cuz this
guy was growling about her plenty hot. “Bernadette,
people are searchin' for the kind of love that we possess.” I’ll say.
Did I miss anyone? If so, give me a shout and let me know who else makes it on to your list.
